The City of Salinas, located in beautiful Monterey County, is the 33rd largest City in the state with a population of approximately 163,542. Just 40 minutes south of the heart of the nation’s high-tech industry, Silicon Valley, the City has the largest population in California’s Central Coast, is a multicultural and diverse community and a key asset in today’s global economy. The Office of the City Manager is responsible for a wide range of activities, including managing and directing budget and operations, facilities and asset management, public safety, economic development initiatives, legislative analysis, intergovernmental relations, employee relations, and strategic planning. The City is seeking an equitable, flexible, and forward facing candidate to serve as the next City Manager. The ideal candidate is transparent and dynamic with the ability to provide effective leadership to the organization. The successful candidate must be a consensus builder who gives direction and follows through. The ability to communicate effectively, bring Council together, and hold staff accountable is essential to success in this role. The ideal candidate must be approachable, visible, and collaborative, offering knowledge of current social, political, and economic trends and operating problems of municipal government. Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field as well as ten (10) years of increasingly responsible municipal administrative experience, including a minimum of five (5) years as a City Manager. A Master’s Degree in a related field is highly desirable.
The City Manager is an at-will position and the annual salary range is $285,000 to $315,000.
