The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRV Fire) seeks a Communications Center Manager to oversee the operations of its NEW state-of-the-art 9-1-1 communications center, equipped with the latest in emergency call technology! SRV Fire is responsible for providing fire protection, emergency medical services, police dispatch, and other related public safety services to the communities it serves – including the pioneering new EMD Mental Health Program, sending trained firefighters to emergency mental health calls. This position is integral to the agency, managing a high-volume workload of approximately 80,000-90,000 calls per year. The Manager will supervise a capable and hardworking team of 15 full-time employees and a revolving team of 16 communications reserve staff and will manage a 24/7 on-call phone in case of crisis. They will also oversee the Mobile Communications Unit, which is deployed for emergencies and regional events. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of leadership qualities, exceptional communication skills, and a calm, composed demeanor under pressure. In this critical role, the Manager should exhibit a natural aptitude for problem solving, have knowledge of emergency management and public safety, and the ability to make swift and accurate judgments in very high-stress situations. The Manager will be a highly resilient and flexible leader who adapts to change with ease. Experience in EMD, fire, and police dispatch is highly desired. A knowledgeable communications administrator who understands the complexities of a 9-1-1 call center is ideal for this role.
Strong interpersonal skills are paramount, as they will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of Dispatch Supervisors, a team of Dispatchers, and a communications reserve staff; and maintaining effective communication channels with various emergency response agencies. Diplomacy, tact, and a sense of empathy are all critical in this role, as the Manager will need to lead a team that deals with individuals in distress and life-threatening situations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of implementing and optimizing protocols, and ensuring seamless coordination between the dispatch team and other entities.
