In this role, the Community Development Director will provide strategic oversight to the Community Development team, manage departmental services, approve work plans and offer guidance and support to team members. Beyond internal responsibilities, the Community Development Director will collaborate with colleagues from other departments and provide highly responsible, professional and complex staff support to the Assistant City Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties for the Community Development Director may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plans, organizes, directs and manages all department activities and implements department goals and objectives in accordance with the core vision, mission, values and general plan of the organization; develops, recommends, and administers policies and procedures; identifies, develops, and implements initiatives to improve service delivery to the community, with other city departments and public/regional agencies.
- Serves as the principal advisor to the City on Community Development issues; develops and directs plans and policies to meet City goals and community needs; interprets concerns, defines desired results, develops strategies and creative solutions, removes hurdles, determines scope and priorities of programs and special projects.
- Meet with managers, and other key department staff to share information and discuss issues regarding projects, policies and programs, and to determine priorities and resource management issues, on a regular basis.
- Administers, directs, and recommends the department budget; analyzes fiscal data to identify and project resource needs; obtains needed resources; monitors and approves budget expenditures.
- Represents the Community Development Department to other City departments, elected officials and outside agencies; interprets and explains policies, procedures, rules and regulations; coordinates strategies to integrate services with other programs, departments and agencies.

Salary Range: $16,055.87 - $19,651.32 per month
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, public administration, business administration or a related field.
- A Master's degree in City and Regional Planning or Urban Planning and/or AICP certification from the American Planning Association may be substituted for some of the required experience.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in community development, urban planning, project management, and contract administration which includes at least three (3) years managing programs and staff.
- Familiarity with building inspection, code enforcement, and plan checking programs and processes is desired.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment, frequently sitting for long periods of time and attend off-site meetings at different locations regularly during the day. Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and travel to conferences and meetings out-of-town. Requires speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds.
