The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for Deputy City Attorney I/II and Assistant City Attorney.  These positions provide a wide range of professional legal services to all City departments.

 

Under general direction of the City Attorney, the Deputy City Attorney I/II and the Assistant City Attorney research legal issues, prepare legal opinions; advise department officials on legal questions involving City operations; try lawsuits in court, arbitrations, and other administrative hearings; prepare appellate and trial briefs, pleadings, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, and other legal documents; and perform selected administrative duties. Assignments involving land use law, real estate transactions, labor relations and personnel, rent control, municipal finance, and police activities are possible. 

 

In addition to the general qualifications outlined in the job descriptions, the ideal candidates will have concentrated court and jury trial experience in both state and federal courts.

 

Compensation: 

Deputy City Attorney I:  $8,035—$9,765

Deputy City Attorney II:  $8,838—$10,743

Assistant City Attorney:  $10,694—$13,000

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Deputy City Attorney I: 

Experience:  None.

Education:  Possess a Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.

Licenses and Certificates:  Possess and maintain of a valid California Driver’s License.  Membership in the State Bar of California.

 

Deputy City Attorney I: 

Experience:  Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Deputy City Attorney I for the City of Hayward.

Education:  Possess a Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.

Licenses and Certificates:  Possess and maintain of a valid California Driver’s License.  Membership in the State Bar of California.

 

Assistant City Attorney

Experience:  Five (5) years of experience performing duties comparable to those of an Attorney for the City of Hayward.

Education:  Possess a Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.

Licenses and Certificates:  Possess and maintain of a valid California Driver’s License.  Membership in the State Bar of California.
