The Deputy City Manager is a vital member of the City’s Executive Management Team. The culture of the management team is strongly cohesive and supports open communication and mutual respect. The City is seeking an energetic, customer focused, and solution-oriented local government executive to become part of our dynamic and professional team. As a key member of the team, the Deputy City Manager plays an integral role in planning, organizing, managing, and providing administrative direction and oversight for all activities and operations of the City of Malibu. This position regularly interacts with the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, City Council and departmental representatives in coordinating projects and information and serves as acting City Manager in the City Manager’s and Assistant City Manager’s absence. The City supports an organizational culture that values work/ life balance. Due to the “at-will” nature of the position, the City provides flexibility in the work schedule and remote working opportunities after 6 months.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, public administration, or a related field and three to five years of management or administrative experience in administration and/or City government. Possession of a Master’s degree is highly desirable.

  • Complex budget analysis
  • Administrative and legislative policy analysis
  • Program and organizational evaluation
  • Project management

Demonstrate effective interpersonal and problem solving skills to:
  • Interact positively with elected officials and community leaders
  • Develop, motivate and evaluate professional and support staff
  • Engage in and encourage collegial team approach to problem-solving
