The City of Petaluma seeks a Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation for an exciting, innovative, and highly customizable new role at the City. The successful candidate will be experienced in managing community services, budget forecasting and project management, with a deep passion for providing critical park planning and recreation program management. Depending on the skillset of the successful candidate, this position will oversee elements of the Recreation Services or Operations Divisions, collaborating with the Director of Parks & Recreation to ensure the success of the City. The Deputy Director will have shared oversight of approximately 22 full-time department employees, 24-45 part-time or seasonal employees, contracts with service providers, and an annual operating budget of approximately $6.5 million. They will ideally have in-depth experience in either recreation and/or parks operations. The Deputy Director will play a pivotal role in the City’s efforts to rehabilitate, renovate, and reimagine 450 acres of park land and public spaces, including 47 public parks and active historical sites.
