The San Joaquin County Public Works Department is seeking a dynamic, seasoned leader to serve as a Deputy Director of Public Works, overseeing the critical
Engineering Services functional area. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring a professional with proven ability to drive complex infrastructure projects and manage a large multi-disciplinary team.
Reporting directly to the Director of Public Works, the Deputy Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and administration of Engineering Services. Direct oversight of specialized units include:
- Bridge Engineering
- Design Engineering
- Field Engineering
- Transportation Engineering

Desirable Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited university with a major in civil engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience: Five years of professional engineering work in a supervisory or
administrative capacity with a large organization performing diversified public
works activities, two years of which must have been as a Registered Civil Engineer.
Required Qualifications
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Certificate: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers.
