THE POSITION
The Director of Development Services for Rohnert Park is an essential member of the City’s Leadership Team which works cohesively, supports open communication and mutual respect. The City is seeking a team-oriented, politically astute, collaborative leader to become part of this dynamic and professional team. As a key team member, the Director plays an integral part in modeling the City’s high standards necessary for the professional operation of the Development Services Department and setting expectations and goals for efficient performance while ensuring a high level of customer service is provided to residents and internal and external customers. This position will oversee and manage the day-to day activities of the Development Services Department, which supports planning, building, engineering, housing and code compliance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Under the direction of the City Manager, the Director of Development Services provides leadership and direction to the Department. The next Director will bring a service oriented and proactive approach that supports the City of Rohnert Park’s organization initiatives.

They will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and are able to work with staff, executive leadership, and elected officials, and have a willingness to collaborate with other department heads, business leaders and leadership alike. Experienced in navigating opposition from external stakeholders. This candidate is a highly motivated problem solver who is passionate about community development and committed to measurable results. They can navigate working relationships seamlessly with developers and find new and innovative ways to partner with developers. The ideal candidate will be a resilient, inquisitive professional with the highest moral character and integrity, with a desire to interact with staff, welcome new ideas, and build a strong connection with the community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of equivalent experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Director of Director of Development Services:
Education: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in community development, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree in business or public administration or a related field is preferred.
Experience: This position requires a minimum of five years of administrative experience in community development, engineering, or urban planning, including at least three (3) years in a
management capacity.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $166,968.18 - $202,950.48 and will be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate, in addition to an automobile allowance of $505.49/month. The selected candidate will also enjoy excellent benefits including:

  California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS)
  Classic Members: Retirement formula 2% at age 55 and employee contribution of 7% of reportable compensation
  New Members: Retirement formula 2% at age 62 and employee contribution of 8% of reportable compensation
Medicare taxes are withheld; no participation in Social Security

  Use of the City’s Sports Center, and lap swim in the City’s swimming pools, for employee and eligible dependents.
