The City of Palm Desert is seeking a strategic thinker and decision maker to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of a long-term employee.
This vacancy creates a premier career opportunity for a professional who possesses outstanding integrity and judgment. As part of the Executive Management Team, the Director of Finance will have the ability to raise the bar for the organization through strong leadership and management skills.
The Finance Director will provide direction to nine (9) finance/accounting employees, including professional, para-professional and support staff. The Director will: oversee and control the development of the citywide budget, including revenue forecasting; conduct department budget reviews and make recommencations to the City Manager; develop fiscal policies and procedures; direct the preparation of financial statment and other reports; oversee reporting in accordance with governmental accounting, auditing and financial reporting; oversee payroll processing; monitor effectiveness of investment options and particiate in labor negotiations.
Duties also include service on a variety of City and Regional boards, commissions and committees.
The Ideal Candidate will be prepared to lead the Finance Department and the Organization as they face dynamic changes. The City is seeking a provden leader that fosters collaboration within their team, throughout the organization and with outside agencies to achieve goals. Willingness to serve the public and a commitment to transparency is key.
Qualifitications: Although the City is open to other appropriate combinations, candidates should typcially have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field. An advanced degrees is highly desirable. Candidate should have a minimum of six years of increasingly responsible experience working in finance management including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
