The City of Ventura is hiring! We are accepting applications for the position of Environmental Services Specialist.
THE POSITION
The City of Ventura’s Water Department and Public Works Department are looking for Environmental Services Specialists with the drive and enthusiasm to deliver innovative quality environmental programs. WHAT YOU’LL DO
In Ventura Water, the Environmental Services Specialist performs professional and technical duties such as conducting water conservation surveys and providing day to day administrative support for outreach and public engagement. With the persistent drought, water conservation has become critically important to the City and has increased the focus and workload related to water conservation. This position is critical to effectively coordinating these tasks.
In Public Works, the Environmental Services Specialist assists in evaluating feasibility, development, and implementation of environmental management programs relative to sustainability, recycling and waste reduction, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and storm water quality. This position may interface with other City departments, residents, businesses, schools, regulatory and granting agencies, and local environmental stakeholders.
WHO YOU ARE
If you have enthusiasm for environmental sustainability issues and a broad understanding of water efficiency, conservation and resource programs, this position may be for you! Through education, training and/or experience, you must have the ability to actively engage with the public and organizations to work cooperatively to address environmental issues.
Ventura Water
- provide exemplary customer service while educating residents about water conservation and investigating water wasting complaints when they occur,
- provide Water Conservation Manager Software support and Meter Data Management Customer Connect support to maintain relevant data, and
assist in writing articles for publication and updating the website.
Public Works
- clearly communicate complex environmental issues and programs to a variety of audiences,
- develop and run successful programs to achieve compliance with applicable regulations and maximize environmental and community benefit.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO QUALIFY
A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, water resources management, public or business administration, or a closely related field, supplemented by one year of professional experience in researching, planning, or implementation of environmental management programs are required.
License: Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
When assigned to K-12 classroom presentations, incumbent is required to undergo live scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis test result issued within the last two years.

Salary: $66,986.82 - $89,762.82 Annually DOQ
