FINANCE DIRECTOR / CITY TREASURER
Salary: $157, 415 - $191,339 Annually


The Finance Director / City Treasurer provides effective leadership in developing and implementing the Department’s goals, objectives, policies, priorities, and performance evaluation. The Director is an “at will” employee who serves at the pleasure of the City Manager; is a key member of the Executive Team; oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department; coordinates activities with other City departments and outside regulatory agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex financial and administrative support and advice to the City Manager, City Council, and other departments. In addition, the Director oversees the City’s complex financial structure and budget and coordinates the financing and accounting for all the programs and services offered by the City. Some areas of responsibility include long-term capital and financial planning, revenue management, treasury/investments, investment portfolio management,  accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing.

The successful candidate will be an experienced finance professional who exhibits a collaborative, engaging, and open demeanor with a good balance of financial and interpersonal skills. They will bring proven leadership abilities, a broad range of knowledge in most, if not all, financial functions in local government and have a successful track record of sustainable leadership. The successful candidate will be a working department head who possesses the ability to evaluate complex financial systems and efficiently formulate and install accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records. They will have the ability to communicate with people as the budget director and in language that is easy to understand. They will formulate long-range fiscal planning and prepare informative financial reports. The successful candidate will quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with governmental officials, the public, and co-workers. Supervisory experience and the ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees are also important. The Finance Department is very visible with significant person-to-person contact in and outside the organization. In addition, the next Finance Director will be confident and competent in providing written staff reports, making public presentations, and appearing in front of City Council.

Experience & Education:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a closely related course of study, and
Eight years of increasingly responsible financial management experience including three years of management and administrative responsibility in a municipality or other government agency.
Masters degree in Public or Business Administration is highly desirable
Certified Public Accountant Certification is highly desirable
