FIRE CHIEF
City of Hemet, California
SALARY: $150,000 - $202,000 (DOQ/DOE)
The City of Hemet, California seeks a Fire Chief that is a proven leader and experienced professional with a passion for delivering high-quality services to carry out the critical functions of the Hemet Fire Department (Department). The ideal candidate will understand how to manage, recruit, support, motivate, and lead a fire department that has a combination of new recruits and highly trained experts on their team. This position will be a part of the City of Hemet’s City Leadership team, supporting the City Manager with the vision of moving the City forward. The Fire Chief will work diligently to manage the activities and services of the Department, including fire suppression, protection and prevention, hazardous materials and disaster preparedness, medical response, and command of major fire emergency and disaster situations effecting the City. The next Fire Chief will be a visionary leader who has a passion for the work they do and the team they lead. The Fire Chief will be enthusiastic about serving our community and providing customer service excellence, while maintaining the culture and tradition our firefighting family have come to expect and love.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Our Fire Chief should have an in-depth knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention principles, rescue, investigation, inspection, emergency medical services and public education as authorized by the California Fire Code. The Fire Chief will have extensive experience in fire service and fire operations, be a visionary leader, and have a passion for the work we do and the men and women they lead. The Fire Chief will be enthusiastic about serving our community while maintaining the culture and tradition our firefighting family have come to expect and love.
Our next Chief will prioritize collaborative partnerships and community engagement, bring enthusiasm and passion, as well as deliver customer service excellence. We need a leader who is action oriented, transparent, strategic, a team builder, a strong administrator, and a visionary. He/she should also bring excellent communication skills and place a high importance on safety, values, ethics and integrity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in fire technology, public administration, or related field with five (5) years of progressively responsible fire service management experience, including three (3) years battalion chief or higher-level supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• State of California Class “C” Driver’s License.
• Master’s degree highly desirable.
