The San Benito County Water District (SBCWD) is seeking a General Manager to drive the District’s mission forward, ensuring sustainable water resources for agricultural, municipal, and industrial use. This General Manager will oversee 22 staff and an approximate annual operating budget of $29 million. This small yet dynamic district requires a leader who excels in collaboration and communication. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of keeping the Board informed, to ensure strategic decisions are made with the Board’s full support and understanding. This hands-on General Manager ensures the seamless integration of functions including groundwater management, federal water importation contracts, and the operation of two water treatment plants. Additionally, they will strategize the District's responsibilities regarding agricultural water delivery and the efficiency of two surface water reservoirs used for storage and groundwater recharge. The ideal candidate will be a leader who is self-motivated and driven, eager to work closely with others, exercises flexible thinking, remains open to new ideas, and demonstrates a history of excellent fiscal management. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This role requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative spirit. While demonstrating exceptional abilities in personnel and complex fiscal management, they will also be an exceptional relationship builder, clear communicator, and active listener who values diverse perspectives. They will foster a positive work culture, provide opportunities for staff development, and serve as the engaging and professional face of the organization while interfacing with contractors. The General Manager will receive ongoing support from SBCWD’s previous General Manager who, acting as an annuitant, will serve as a strategic advisor to ensure their success. With a supportive Board, contractors, and a dedicated team, this new General Manager will have the resources needed to move SBCWD’s objectives forward, ensuring sustainable water resources for the community while maintaining a focus on strategic growth.
