The Juvenile Detention Facility is a 24-hour operation. These positions require working rotating shifts which will include weekends and holidays, as well as working overtime.
The San Joaquin Probation Department – Juvenile Services Division is dedicated to supporting youth, their families, and victims to promote a safer, stronger community. The division works to reduce recidivism through evidence-based practices and collaborates with community organizations to provide mentoring, support, and essential services. It also focuses on preventing youth from entering the Juvenile Justice System by offering diversion programs and early interventions for at-risk youth, including short-term counseling and residential programs that teach life skills and support academic success.
The Detention Services Division at Peterson Juvenile Hall provides a secure, structured environment for youth in custody, emphasizing safety, education, rehabilitation, and personal growth. The Juvenile Detention Unit Supervisor plays a critical role in this mission by overseeing a living or work unit, supervising and coaching staff, and engaging directly with youth to build trust, promote accountability, and reinforce positive behavior. This position ensures that the facility operates safely and effectively while supporting programs that foster development, skill-building, and successful outcomes for the youth they serve.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER PATTERN I Experience: One year as a Juvenile Detention Officer with San Joaquin County.
OR PATTERN II
Education: Completion of sixty semester (or equivalent quarter) units at an accredited college or university, including at least eighteen semester (or equivalent quarter) units in the social or behavioral sciences.
AND Experience: Two years of full-time experience in law enforcement, correctional work in a probation or parole agency, detention or residential treatment facility, correctional institution, or supervision of residents in a youth or adult housing program.
AND FOR BOTH PATTERNS License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
