THE POSITION
Under general supervision collects and performs routine chemical and physical analysis of potable water, wastewater, industrial waste, storm water and environmental samples.
Incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.
THE IDEAL CADIDATE
Will be self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to work alone and as part of a team.
Will understand California Department of Health sampling procedures and chemical testing methods. Is proficient in the use of computers and has excellent math and computation skills.
Is able to stand for long periods of time and perform sampling activities around raw sewage and wastewater.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collects samples from treatment plant, water distribution, industrial waste and receiving water locations.
Lifts manhole covers and portable samplers from inside manholes. Carries several liters of water samples from site back to vehicle.
Conducts chemical analysis of environmental water samples by standard procedures including, but not limited to the analysis of, solids, pH and alkalinity, COD, BOD, and chlorine residual.
Operates pH and turbidity meters, portable samplers, analytical balances and maintains records of sampling, analysis procedures and results, and inputs data.
Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment; and performs other related work as assigned or required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of related laboratory experience. College level course work in a laboratory science is desirable.
