The City of Berkeley, California, is seeking a Manager of Engineering (City Engineer) to serve as the highly experienced and knowledgeable leader of the Engineering Division in the Public Works Department. The City Engineer will report to the Deputy Director of Engineering & Transportation while overseeing 40 staff, including six direct reports, and an approximate budget of $50 million. This is an exciting opportunity to step into an engaging workplace where every day looks different. The ideal candidate will have experience managing sewers, stormwater, facilities, sidewalk, and private development review and will eagerly take on new challenges while serving as a steadfast leader and manager. The City Engineer will work to expand the pavement maintenance program by increasing funding and capacity while also working on infrastructure bond and long-term planning. It is ideal that the successful candidate has excellent long-term infrastructure planning and revenue development skills to actualize these critical programs. Interpersonal skills are strongly desired for this role, as the City Engineer will be working closely with their team, Council, public and private stakeholder groups, City departments, external agencies, and the community members. Someone who is prepared to provide technical assistance to staff while serving as a proactive project manager is essential for this role.
