The City of Rancho Cucamonga, California, is conducting a national search for an experienced and innovative urban planning professional to serve as their next Director of Planning and Economic Development. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a deep and effective understanding of urban, suburban, and rural environments, economic development strategies, and outstanding communication skills. Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, the Director of Planning and Economic Development is a key member of the City Manager’s Executive Team and provides day-to-day management of the Planning Department. The Planning Department’s primary responsibilities are developing and implementing comprehensive plans that reflect the goals and policies of the City; ensuring the long-term success of the community through effective management of the City’s growth; conducting a detailed analysis of all development proposals to verify consistency with the City’s Goals and Policies; and working with other City departments to build and maintain a high quality, balanced, and sustainable community for Rancho Cucamonga residents, businesses, and visitors.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and 8 years of progressively responsible management or supervisory experience in municipal planning and/or community development, economic development, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities. A Master's degree is desirable. Certification such as AICP or CNU-A is strongly preferred.
The annual salary range for this position is $123,792 to $175,524 DOQE. The City also offers an attractive benefit package including CalPERS retirement.
