SALARY: $152,058.82 - $159,299.71 Annually*

The County of Santa Barbara is seeking a Planning & Development Assistant Director to help with the daily operations of the Planning and Development Department. While in this role, you will serve as an executive leader reporting to the Director of Planning and Development and oversee the Administration, Building and Safety, Development Review, Energy, Minerals, and Compliance, and Long-Range Planning divisions. This position oversees an approximate staff of 50 and operational budget of $15 million and contributes to the overall department budget of $30 million. Additionally, the Assistant Director will effectively work with elected officials, county staff and executive leadership, business and development community, and individual constituents. This is an at-will executive leadership position that is exempt from the Civil Service Rules and serves at the pleasure of the Planning & Development Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- The core competencies listed HERE and the ability to immediately demonstrate these competencies consistent with the position’s level in the leadership series and the specific work assignment, AND
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field (i.e., public administration, landscape architecture, geography) and broad, extensive, and progressively responsible managerial experience in a public jurisdiction or private entity engaged in community and regional planning, or related field; OR,
- Two years of experience performing duties equivalent to a Planning and Development Deputy Director in a public sector position; OR
- Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License is required. Independent travel around the County is required.
Desirable:
Possession of a graduate degree in urban or regional planning, public or business administration, or related field.
