Named one of the ten safest Cities in America and one of the most livable cities in the country, the City of Santa Clara (pop. 129,488) lies at the center of Silicon Valley, 45 miles south of San Francisco. The Community Development Department is organized across three divisions: Planning, Building, and Housing and Community Services. The Planning Manager will oversee a FY21-22 budget of $4.5 million and be supported by 20 full-time employees.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative urban planning professional who embraces innovative strategies and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills will be required to be successful. The selected candidate will be an experienced people manager with the ability to motivate staff. Five years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience including two years managing professional staff and education and experience equivalent to that obtained by graduation with a Master’s degree in city or urban planning or closely related field.
