The City of Ontario Development Agency is seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Principal Planner in Transportation/Mobility. This position will play a lead role in shaping and directing new citywide mobility initiatives and be responsible for developing and leading the mobility planning efforts for the City of Ontario. Under general direction of the Traffic/Transportation Manager, the Principal Planner assigned to Transportation/Mobility will create, review, and oversee master plan projects and supervise related transportation planning activities.
The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional communication and interpersonal skills enabling them to work with the public, consultants, and City staff within an interdisciplinary environment; possess exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to produce plans and documents in house; be self-driven and act with initiative to accomplish priorities and meet deadlines; and demonstrate commitment to the community by providing excellent customer service thorough teamwork, communication, and responsiveness.
The Principal Planner classification may be used in a variety of City departments. This recruitment will result in an eligibility list for this classification to meet the future staffing needs of the departments with openings in this classification. The current opening is with the Development Agency in Transportation/Mobility.
Qualification Guidelines: Education
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Mobility/Transportation Planning or closely related field.
Experience
Five years of recent, progressively responsible, professional current and long-range planning experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity (a master's degree related to planning may be substituted for one year of experience, but may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience).
License
A valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable
Previous work experience in mobility/transportation. Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of municipal planning and zoning. Knowledge of the latest developments and trends in local government and municipal planning.
