See the full recruitment brochure here The Town of Truckee is looking for a Principal Planner or a Senior Planner (one vacancy) to oversee the housing functions of the Community Development Department’s Planning Division. At the Principal Planner level, you will develop housing strategies and solutions to increase housing supply affordable to the local workforce, oversee policy implementation and development review specific to housing, and work on other current and long-range projects. At the Senior Planner level, you will work collaboratively on Housing Element implementation, complex planning projects, and supporting staff in their decision-making process. Both levels require a strong understanding of housing policy, California housing laws, and development review, requiring candidates to have a background in housing, policy implementation, and working with developers. The ideal candidate for either role will be a steadfast leader who is a creative, out-of-the-box thinker. Someone who can navigate conflict and clearly communicate with others is highly desirable for these roles. Core aspects of these roles include meeting with property owners and developers, diffusing challenging situations, researching planning issues, and representing the Town at various meetings. They will also contribute to a highly skilled, collaborative, and welcoming team of fellow planners.   THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will be creative, innovative, and willing to try new things. The Town is eager to bring someone on board who has a deep understanding of housing complexities with the ability to focus on policy implementation and housing projects. They will be a service and solution-oriented person who is highly skilled in both planning and housing functions. An innovative leader who understands how collaborative efforts enhance the ability to provide best-in-class service will do well in this position. The successful candidate will have a record of straightforward and open communication and a willingness to make effective decisions within the parameters of the position, as well as the ability to effectively manage conflicting perspectives and priorities. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in project management, program administration, and development review. A candidate with a strong record of collaborative work with internal and external stakeholders would be highly valued, as the Principal or Senior Planner must be able to develop positive relationships with staff, other Town departments, the public, and several external agencies.
