Located between San Francisco and Sonoma wine country, spanning 28 square miles, the City of Novato (pop. 53,000) is the northernmost city in Marin County. Novato offers a rural atmosphere with an extensive amount of open space. The City of Novato Public Works Department manages the planning, construction, maintenance and operations of all city rights-of-way, properties, and facilities. The Department has a FY24-25 operating budget of $12.7 million with 45 positions.
The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking public works professional who displays a broad range of knowledge and experience in public works operations, maintenance, and capital project management. This hands-on manager will display a flexible style with the ability to lean in where needed to get the job done. Minimum qualifications include seven years of experience managing a variety of public works areas. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. A Master’s Degree and California registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
