The City of San Marcos is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join the Land Development Engineering Division of the Development Services Department.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Land Development Engineering Division coordinates the City’s engineering and technical review of private development applications such as subdivisions of land, grading, public and private improvements, and site development plans. Working with applicant/developer teams, City staff, residents, and external agencies, the Senior Civil Engineer guides projects from inception through the entitlement process, to the development of construction drawings, and into construction. The ideal candidate will have experience in the review of grading and public improvement plans, subdivision mapping, and technical studies such as stormwater quality documents, soils reports, drainage studies, traffic impact analyses, and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents.
Your Day-to-Day
The Senior Civil Engineer is an expert in engineering standards, regulations, City policies, and professional standards of practice who operates collaboratively to achieve solutions to engineering issues for projects such as improvements within the floodplain and 200-acre commercial, mixed-use, and residential developments. The Senior Civil Engineer will facilitate exciting projects such as the development of the City’s new North City downtown area, improvements surrounding the University District, and the revitalization of San Marcos Boulevard into the vision identified in the Specific Plan.
The Senior Civil Engineer reports to the Principal Engineer and helps to organize workload, highlight potential issues, and resolve challenging technical issues. The Senior Civil Engineer also has an important role in mentoring and cultivating the development of junior staff.
