Senior Project Manager (710 Freeway Stub Planning)

The City of Pasadena is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Project Manager with expertise in managing complex projects to join our World Class City. This is a new and exciting role under the City Manager’s Office that will provide day-to-day project management of the 710 freeway stub planning efforts. These Planning efforts are anticipated to culminate in the adoption of new Specific Plan in this area. When not directly engaged in 710 related planning efforts, this position will support a variety of functions across the City Manager’s Office, which will be determined as capacity and opportunities are present.

The ideal candidate is someone who has well-documented experience in managing complex land use/transportation/infrastructure planning projects or who has managed or implemented other types of projects involving multiple facets of inter- and intra-governmental organizations as well as community stakeholder groups. The successful candidate will be a results-driven, high-level project manager who thrives working independently, but will also be required to collaborate with the various stakeholders to move the project forward. Other key skills needed for success on the job include, strong planning, organizational and follow through skills; excellent written and verbal communication abilities; and the desire and ability to cooperate and collaborate with others.

• Directs and monitors activities related to the development of a Specific Plan.
• Reviews contracts and progress reports; maintains appropriate documentation. 
• Coordinates with a variety of staff, departments, and organizations.
• Secures technical or professional services and maintains effective community participation on assigned projects. 
• Prepares and presents reports to boards, commissions, and committees.
• Advises and recommends execution of actions on all aspects of the assigned project(s).
• Represents the Department at various public meetings; meets with a variety of federal, state, and private organizations regarding the project.
• Acts as liaison with consultants, public agencies, community members, stakeholders, and other City staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in political science, marketing, real estate, urban planning, architecture, business or public administration, economics, or related field. 
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in any of the following areas: City/Transportation Planning; Policy Analysis; Architectural/Project Management; including at least two years in a lead analytical, managerial, or supervisory role.

 
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may consist of a training and experience evaluation, interview panel, and/or department-level interviews.

 Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
