About the position

The County of San Joaquin is currently seeking an experienced, innovative, strategic, and collaborative nurse to serve as the Senior Deputy Director of Public Health Nursing. The Senior Deputy Director will be an integral member of the Senior Management leadership team of Public Health Services (PHS) committed to quality improvement, interprofessional leadership, and evidence-based nursing practice. This position will be responsible for leading, administering, and oversight of Program Managers and Program Coordinators in Children’s Medical Services, Emergency Preparedness, Disease Control and Prevention, HIV/STD, and Maternal Child and Adolescent Health. In addition, this position serves as the Director of Public Health Nursing in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 1253. Work also includes directing budgets, functions, and activities of assigned Public Health programs.

The ideal candidate

The ideal Senior Deputy Director- Nursing (Director of Nursing) candidate will have extensive experience managing a variety of Public Health programs with a demonstrated history of Public Health Nursing leadership experience. A qualified candidate should have a thorough understanding of applicable laws and regulations as well as wide-ranging knowledge of the principles and practices of public health services and nursing practice standards. 

A successful candidate will have experience identifying areas in need of improvement and implementing data-driven change within each program, requiring strong change management skills to drive success. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership and Management teams as well as provide clear direction and mentorship to interprofessional staff. The ideal candidate has expertise in public sector budget development and management, particularly in public health programs. A strong candidate should also be a skilled and committed nurse with a strong understanding of professional nursing standards and excellence. Master’s in Nursing Leadership preferred.
