The County Administrator's Office (CAO) is responsible for preparing the county budget, providing the Board of Supervisors with the information they need for making decisions, representing the County in intergovernmental relationships and policy considerations, and coordinating the work of 23 County departments. Our staff also coordinates public communications, planning for County facilities, risk management, legislative advocacy, race equity, and other strategic initiatives.
The Marin County Administrator’s Office is recruiting for one (1) full-time regular hire Strategic Projects Manager which will be filled at either the Strategic Projects Manager II (Administrative Analyst II) or Strategic Projects Manager III (Administrative Analyst III) level. The II level requires the ability to act independently and utilize sound judgment to support the County’s strategic priorities, budgetary policies and administrative initiatives and are expected to independently plan and carry out projects of moderate complexity and to administer ongoing programs with a well-defined scope. The level III is the advanced level in the Administrative Analyst series and is competent to perform the full range of complex assignments, services and analytical studies with a high degree of professional judgment with considerable independence. Reporting to an Assistant County Administrator, this position is an exciting opportunity to lead and support a variety of countywide initiatives that strengthen business processes and improve services to internal and external customers as part of a highly respected and professional team committed to integrity and programmatic excellence with a lens on racial and economic equity. The incumbent will collaborate with diverse employee stakeholder groups at all levels, with residents and community groups, and appointed and elected officials on a wide variety of important and sometimes high profile special projects.

The Minimum Qualifications for the Strategic Projects Manager II are: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed in the class specification. Typically, graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, public policy or a field related to the work or at least four years of work experience involving administrative, budgetary, or organizational analysis and/or in providing administrative staff support in areas such as budgeting, report preparation, and technical analysis. Advanced coursework in an appropriate field is desirable, as is an internship or other experience that will have provided a basic knowledge of public agency organization and functions. In addition, two years of experience in performing administrative, budgetary, operational or organizational analysis and/or in providing administrative staff support to senior management in areas such as budgeting, report preparation and technical analysis. An advanced degree in business or public administration may be substituted for one year of experience.
The Minimum Qualifications for the Strategic Projects Manager III are: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed in the class specification. Typically, graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, public policy or a field related to the work and three years of professional level experience performing administrative, budgetary, operational, management or organizational analysis work. At least one year of the required professional experience must have included journey level experience in the area of assignment. Additional professional level work experience performing administrative, budgetary, operational, management or organizational analysis may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
