  • Supervises, leads, and participates in the activities of assigned staff responsible for street, traffic and information signals, printing and application of street markings, striping, lines and directional messages and storm drain maintenance;
  • Performs on-site inspection of work; ensures the implementation of traffic control measures at job sites; maintains records of program activity, materials used, employee schedules and time records.
  • Surveys City streets, parking lots, drainage ways and signage to identify maintenance needs; establishes schedules and methods for providing street maintenance services; identifies resources needs and allocates resources accordingly. 
  • Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies and procedures; participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for installing and maintaining road and traffic signs, striping, guardrails and related traffic safety devices.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces culverts, curbs, gutters, storm drains, pavement bridges, shoulders and/or ditches.
  • Oversees and coordinates tree trimming and weed abatement programs.
  • Monitors and schedules maintenance of storm water management infrastructure. 
  • Develops and prepares division budget; monitors and controls expenditures and collectible reimbursements; Forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; recommends budgetary adjustments as necessary.
  • Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff in the areas of work; establishes performance requirements and develops personnel, monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development; participates in the progressive disciplinary process as is appropriate; provides safety training for staff; assists in resolving grievances; administers City policies.
  • Provides technical assistance to staff; resolves a variety of routine personnel administrative matters; interprets City personnel and MOU provisions as necessary.
  • Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints in an efficient and timely manner; provides leadership ensuring a high performance, customer-oriented work environment that supports achieving the department's and City's mission, objectives and values. Coordinates with other City departments and divisions; maintains positive working relationships with city management, staff and the public.
  • Responds to and directs street and traffic operations during emergencies as needed, including after hours; prioritizes equipment and material needs; determines need for and requisitions for contractors; coordinates response with other agencies and County departments/agencies; maintains records for reimbursement claims.
