Officials in the City of Los Angeles have been roused to action after learning that at least one of last month’s devastating wildfires was caused by activities at a nearby homeless encampment.
Each year, thousands of homeless people are given one-way tickets from one city to another with little consideration as to where they’re going, who they’ll meet, or what will eventually become of them.
The situation involving homeless encampments in Anaheim has spiraled out of control. Now, one councilwoman is proposing a robust plan that would include declaring a state of emergency to cope with the squalor, drug use and other issues affecting public health and safety.
Pasadena’s homeless population had been steadily declining for years, but that trend was officially broken in 2016 and 2017.
San Jose will sidestep state building codes under a law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last month.
They want help from the county, STAT.
The homeless population has been increasing in LA County rapidly. Both the county and city of Los Angles have responded to the issue with financial compensation.
