Oakland leaders have formally declared racism to be a public health crisis. The declaration was adopted unanimously by the Oakland City Council.
"Fewer than a dozen California cities have formalized sister city relationships with Russian cities — but among them are some of the largest and most influential in the state, including Los Angeles (St. Petersburg), Long Beach (Sochi) and San Diego (Vladivostok). These cities should heed Zelensky’s call and renounce their sister city relationships with their Russian counterparts."
A nine-member jury has determined that former Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick was unlawfully fired in retaliation for speaking out against alleged corruption by members of the Civilian Police Commission. Kirkpatrick has been awarded $337,635 in damages.
The former top cop says she was fired for blowing the whistle on misconduct.
Seventeen cities and counties have received a total of $100 million in state funds to help transition local cannabis businesses to the legal market.
