A new state law that has opened up years of police misconduct records to public disclosure is pitting law enforcement unions, local jurisdictions, and transparency advocates against one another in courtrooms across the state.
A controversial retirement program that paid some L.A. public safety workers double toward the end of their careers is headed for change following a series of investigative reports by the Los Angeles Times.
Officer Natalie Corona was also the daughter of Colusa County Supervisor Jose Merced Corona.
New figures show a decrease in violent crime in 2018 in the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Oakland.
The decision came just weeks before a new law would have required making them available to the public.
“Any suggestion that I am connected to the shooting is dishonest at best, and politically motivated at worst,” the mayor said.
With the help of Google maps, police were able to determine that anti-gay graffiti on a council candidate’s fence was there before his residency.
The public still has time to comment.
San Francisco police say it has become nearly impossible to get a drug conviction in many parts of the city, turning communities like the Tenderloin into a drug free-for-all where users and dealers from other parts of the state flock to take advantage.
