Firehouse Subs: Public Safety Foundation

The mission of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is to impact  

the life-saving capabilities and the lives of local heroes and their  

communities. Support for public safety organizations in the communities  

served by Firehouse Subs restaurants across the country. Foundation's areas of interest include:  Life-Saving Equipment The focus is on providing first responders with equipment to improve their life saving capabilities.  

Disaster Relief The focus is on aiding and resources after natural and man-made disasters such as fire,  tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.  

Prevention Education The focus is on prevention educational tools to the public about the importance of  fire safety, public safety, and natural disaster preparedness in order to prevent disasters in the home and  community.  

Military and Local Heroes The focus is on organizations that benefit men and women of the military  who have served their country in any of the branches of the United States Uniformed Services.  Scholarships and Continued Education The focus is on providing financial resources to accredited  organizations to assist individuals pursuing a career in the public safety sector.

County Coordinator Grant Opportunity 

Deadline: est 2024 

Amount: Up to 21 counties will receive a one-time, 18 month grant of $175,000. Match: No 

Eligibility: The 2022 Statewide County Coordinator Grant Program application is intended for the  remaining counties who did not receive funding as part of the 2021-2022 Northern or Southern  Region County Coordinator Grant Program. Please reference the map above for current County  Coordinator projects. To apply, counties must be the starting point and invested in the scope and  goals of the project. However, counties may choose to direct the application process and funds to the  non-profit or public agency that they feel are best equipped to execute the project. Local fire  mitigation groups are not eligible to apply unless their county designates them as the primary  applicant and provides a letter of support. The County Coordinator Grant Program is part of a larger effort by the California Fire Safe Council  and our partners to develop local and regional capacity and coordination to encourage collaboration  between all fire mitigation and emergency preparedness groups, as well as government agencies and  

stakeholders. Each County Coordinator will serve as a conduit of information and resources and  provide active coordination and outreach efforts within their county.  

CalFIRE: Rural Fire Capacity (RFC) Grant: 

Deadline: TBD, coming out in March 2024 

Amount: $500 to $20,000 

Match: 50% 

Federally-funded grant program that allows California to provide local and rural fire departments with  minor firefighting, training, communications and safety equipment for their volunteer firefighters. The  RFC Program is not intended for major equipment (fire engines, vehicles, etc) or Capital repairs. The  RFC Program has a 50/50 match requirement which means that the applying department must be able to  meet the intended grant award, dollar for dollar. Awards for departments are set at a minimum of $500  with a maximum of $20,000. FEMA: Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program

The Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program (RCPGP) plays an important role in the  implementation of the National Preparedness System. RCPGP supports the building of core capabilities  essential to achieving the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation by providing  resources to close known capability gaps in Housing and Logistics and Supply Chain Management,  encouraging innovative regional solutions to issues related to catastrophic incidents, and building on  existing regional efforts. 

USDA: Urban and Community Forestry Grant 

Deadline: June 2024 (est.) 

Amount: The minimum Federal funding amount for projects is $100,000. The maximum Federal  funding limit is $50,000,000.  

Match: 50%, but can be waived if a severely disadvantaged community

State and  Private Forestry Conservation Programs, (2) Urban and Community Forestry (2022-2031) to provide  multiyear, programmatic, competitive grants for tree planting and related activities, with a priority for  projects that benefit underserved populations and areas through the Urban and Community Forestry  Assistance program established under section 9(c) of the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act Of  1978 

USDA: Community Wildfire Defense

Amount:The maximum amount of Federal funding awarded to any one community or Tribe via this  competitive process is: 

● $250,000 for the creation or updating of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan. ● $10 million for a project described within a Community Wildfire Protection Plan less than 10  years old. 

● For planning purposes, the total Federal funding available through the CWDG competitive  process could be up to $250 million for this second round. 

Eligibility: Entities eligible to apply for at-risk communities for funding under the CWDG include: 

● Units of local governments representing communities located in an area with a risk of  wildfires, 

● Indian Tribes (please apply through either the Indian Tribes/Alaska Native Corporations  specific notice or the applicable regional notice), 

● Non-profit organizations including homeowner associations that assist such communities, ● State forestry agencies (including U.S. territories and interests), and 

● Alaska Native Corporations (please apply through either the Indian Tribes/Alaska Native  Corporations specific notice or the applicable regional notice).

This program, which was authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, prioritizes at-risk  communities in an area identified as having high or very high wildfire hazard potential, are low-income,  or have been impacted by a severe disaster that affects the risk of wildfire. More details on these three  priorities can be found in the Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) below.  The program provides funding to communities for two primary purposes: 

● Develop and revise Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP). 

● Implement projects described in a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that is less than ten years  old. 

The Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program also helps communities in the wildland urban  interface (WUI) implement the three goals of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management  Strategy. 

Restore and Maintain Landscapes: Landscapes across all jurisdictions are resilient to fire-related  disturbances, in accordance with management objectives. 

Create Fire Adapted Communities: Human populations and infrastructure can better withstand a  wildfire without loss of life and property.  

Improve Wildfire Response: All jurisdictions participate in making and implementing safe, effective,  efficient risk-based wildfire management decisions.

FM Global:Fire Prevention Grant Program

Through its Fire Prevention Grant Program, FM Global supports organizations in the United States  working to combat fire. Fire departments and brigades, as well as national, state, regional, local, and  community organizations can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention,  preparedness, and control efforts, including pre-incident planning, fire prevention education and  training, and arson prevention or fire investigation. 

Coalitions and Collaboratives Inc. (COCO): Implementation and Mitigation (AIM) Program Deadline: February 2025 

Amount: $10,000 to $75,000 

Match: Yes - 1:1 

Eligibility: Fire departments, conservation districts, regional/local collaborative efforts, Fire Safe  and/or Wildfire Councils, nonprofits in partnership with local/state/private entities, cities, counties  and tribal governments

Summary: Program goal is to accelerate fire adaptation concepts and reduce the risk from wildfire  across the U.S. by increasing capacity and on-the-ground work. COCO hopes to increase community  resilience, restore fire-adapted ecosystems and create safer conditions for residents and firefighters.  This funding opportunity is open to organizations working to advance wildfire risk reduction.  Program funds organizations across the country with a focus on programs and projects that increase  communities’ ability to overcome barriers to successful community wildfire mitigation, multiply the  efforts, achieve quantifiable outcomes, support equitable and inclusive community wildfire mitigation  programs across the fence, and support place-based solutions. 

CalFIRE: Wildfire Resilience and Forestry Assistance Grant 

Deadline: February 2025 

Amount: Up to $7 million may be awarded through this grant solicitation for projects addressing  Action Items 1.11, 1.13 and 1.14. The minimum grant request should be no less than $1 million. The  maximum allowable is $3 million. Up to $1 million may be awarded through this grant solicitation  for projects addressing Action Item. 1.10. The minimum grant request should be no less than  $500,000.  

Eligibility: Applicants submitting projects addressing action items 1.11, 1.13 and 1.14 are limited to  Resource Conservation Districts (RCD’s) and special districts capable of acting as lead agency for  CEQA projects. These applicants must demonstrate they have the capacity to deliver a forestry based  technical and financial assistance program to non-industrial forest landowners. Applicants submitting  projects addressing action items 1.10 are limited counties, resource conservation districts, special  districts, and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

https://www.fire.ca.gov/what-we-do/natural-resource-management/wildfire-resilience The purpose of the block grant is to allow prospective grantees the ability to provide a program of  financial and technical forestry assistance to nonindustrial forest landowners, where the grantee  serves as the supervising entity, receives the grant from CAL FIRE and then provides outreach and/or  technical/financial assistance to landowners so they can conduct forest restoration or management  activities on their property. 

CAL FIRE's Wildfire Resilience team seeks to maintain and enhance the resilience of California’s  small non-industrial private forestland owners to promote healthy resilient forests throughout the state by supporting a diverse set of projects designed to interact with landowners. Depending on the grant  objectives, grants can prove the following: 

- Funding of forest improvement practices including but not limited to tree and brush thinning,  tree release, pruning, site preparation and tree planting, follow up work to support tree growth,  and/or slash disposal. 

- Technical assistance 

This program remains dependent on special funds. 

FEMA: AFG-Assistance to Firefighters grant  

Deadline: March 2025 

Amount: Varies 

Eligibility: Fire departments operating in any of the 50 states

CA FireSafe Council: State Fire Capacity (SFC) Grant 

Deadline: March 2025 

Amount: $100,000 

Match: 1:1 

Eligibility: Resource Conservation Districts, Municipalities: Towns and Cities and Counties, Joint Powers Authorities, Special Districts, et al. 

https://cafiresafecouncil.org/grants-and-funding/2023-2024-sfc-grant-program/ Background: Funding is provided through a master grant awarded to CFSC by the U.S. Forest  Service and is administered through CFSC’s Grants Clearinghouse program. Up to $1,575,000 will be  awarded. CFSC will issue sub-awards to successful applicants that support fire risk reduction  activities by landowners and residents in at-risk communities to restore and maintain resilient  landscapes and create fire-adapted communities. Overview of the grant program, application process,  and workshop details will be posted on the CFSC website soon. 

Projects may focus on one or more of these categories: 

• Fuel Hazard Mitigation on non-federal land, such as chipping, thinning, grazing, herbicide  application, and mastication. 

• Community Hazard Mitigation Planning such as Community Wildfire Protection Plans, Firewise  assessments, hazard assessments, and similar types of plans. 

• Prevention and Mitigation Education such as outreach, mailings, workshops, events, public service  announcements, and other education programs.  

CalFIRE: Urban and Community Forestry Grant

Amount: $150,000 to $1.5M (or up to $3M if the project is regional)
