Former Tracy City Manager Troy Brown has been selected as the next city manager of Moorpark, California. Brown will head to the Ventura County city on March 5. His contract is expected to be approved next week.
“Troy has the depth of experience, education and a vision that most align with Moorpark’s needs,” said Moorpark Mayor Janice Parvin in a press release. “The entire City Council is looking forward to working with Mr. Brown as we tackle the issues and goals most important to the community of Moorpark.”
Parvin cited Brown’s nearly 25 years of municipal experience, including stints as city manager in Livermore and assistant to the city manager in the cities of Elk Grove and Riverside.
There is some mystery surrounding Brown’s departure from his latest job in Tracy, which he held for three years. The council voted 4 to 1 to terminate his contract on Sept. 19 and has declined to say what was behind the decision.
"The city of Tracy will not release the council’s discussions surrounding Mr. Brown’s termination, as they were made during a closed session meeting, which is protected by the Brown Act," the city said in a news release.
Moorpark’s current city manager, Steve Kueny, is retiring after 33 years with the city.
