Fowler Mayor David Cardenas passed away Friday, March 11, at the age of 67. His death was the result of a heart attack.
Officials from across Fowler and Fresno County are remembering Cardenas as a devoted church leader, father, and public servant.
“Mayor David Cardenas was an honorable man who cared deeply about his community. This is a devastating loss for Fowler and the Central Valley. Terra and I are praying for his family, loved ones, and the people of Fowler during this difficult time,” said Rep. David Valado (R-Hanford).
Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer called Cardenas a “humble and complete gentleman” and said he will miss him as a mayor and friend.
“David wanted to ensure that the people of Fresno County had the best transportation opportunities for education, jobs, recreation, and the movement of goods and services,” said Clovis Mayor Jose Flores.
Cardenas was born in Michoacán, Mexico and moved to Fowler when he was 14. He ran Dave’s Auto Service in Fowler for decades and served on the city council for 21 years.
Cardenas’ family says he was devoted to his church. He served as president of the church’s Guadalupana Society and led the construction of a grotto next door to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Cardenas is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anna, their three children, and five grandchildren.
