Oxnard has seen some major reshuffling over the past year. And, on Thursday, that trend continued with the announced departure of assistant city manager Maria Hurtado. Hurtado is leaving after less than two years, having accepted the same position in Hayward, effective Nov. 28. Hayward's former assistant city manager Kelly McAdoo is now serving in the top executive position after replacing retired city manager Fran David in August.
"She has given her heart and soul to the Oxnard community and I wish her great success in her future endeavors," said Oxnard City Manager Greg Nyhoff in a statement.
Hurtado previously served as assistant city manager of Tracy. She and assistant city manager Scott Whitney had both been working alongside Nyhoff until Whitney took over as police chief last month. Nyhoff is now left with a major vacuum in his department.
Oxnard also has a new Fire Chief and head of Finance. Darwin Base, who has worked for the Fire Department for nearly three decades, was recently tapped for the chief position at an annual salary of $185,000. He takes over Nov. 7. That same day, former Paso Robles administrative services director Jim Throop will take over the Finance Department at $194,000 per year. Both men had been leading their respective departments on an interim basis.
