San Bruno’s City Manager is Stepping Down After Fourteen Years

The City of San Bruno will say goodbye to its top administrator after an impressive 14-year run. Connie Jackson has announced she’s retiring early next year.

Jackson’s career spans more than three decades, with stints in Hercules and Fort Bragg among others. She first joined San Bruno in 2003.

Seven years into Jackson’s tenure, a horrific accident occurred in the city’s Crestmoor neighborhood. An explosion at the site of a PG&E pipeline resulted in the deaths of eight people, 66 injuries and millions of dollars in property damage. It forever changed Jackson’s legacy as city manager.

“We should be proud of what this community has accomplished,” she said, reflecting on the way the city came together after the tragedy. “And the legacy that provides for demonstrating what a community with courage, strength and real commitment to what a community needs can actually accomplish.”

Jackson was at the helm while the city sought massive settlements from PG&E and implemented a number of development projects in the aftermath. Development will continue to be a major priority for the city and its next chief executive.

This is a time of great change for San Bruno. In addition to Jackson’s retirement, Mayor Jim Ruane and Vice Mayor Ken Ibarra have both said they will not seek re-election.
