The City of Scotts Valley has selected its first ever female city manager to replace Steve Ando, who retired in December after eight years on the job. Jenny Haruyama's contract is slated for approval by the city council Wednesday and calls for an annual salary of $198,927.
Haruyama has worked in local government for more than two decades and currently serves as assistant city manager in Livermore. As part of her previous duties, she created an annual operating and capital budget of $217 million.
Haruyama's work history also includes time spent as assistant city manager and assistant budget director in Los Gatos, administrative services manager for Tracy, and management analyst for the City of Rancho Cucamonga. That depth of experience helped her beat out 29 other applicants for the job.
She is scheduled to start on July 18 pending the contact approval.
