Today, the City of San Bernardino serves as the county seat and is the largest city in the County of San Bernardino with a population of 214,706.  

About the position
Administrative Analyst I (Flex) is a mid level class in the professional Administrative Analyst series. Administrative Analyst I (Flex) may be considered for advancement to Administrative Analyst II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Initially, incumbents perform professional analytical and management support work assignments ranging from routine to moderately difficult or assist others in performing more difficult analytical work in support of department functions, programs, goals and objectives.  All duties are performed with independence under general supervision from the Assistant City Manager. Incumbents are required to perform their responsibilities with minimal direction, initiative and creativity, exercising experienced professional judgment and problem-solving skills. Incumbents are expected to exercise judgment in applying indicated study methods and analytical techniques and in making sound, fact-based recommendations based on study results. 

Detailed duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting the Office of the City Manager in the delivery of the annual budget, drafting and reviewing staff reports, and assisting in the strategic planning process. Incumbents will participate in interdepartmental collaboration on Office of the City Manager projects. Incumbents will conduct research and provide administrative support to Mayor and City Council Committees, Commissions, and Boards. Will participate in City legislative advocacy efforts and local economic development initiatives. And provide analytical and project management support to the senior management team in the Office of the City Manager.

  The ideal candidate 
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, possess a bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university with a major in finance, public or business administration or a closely related field and have progressively responsible experience in a governmental agency.

Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in finance, public or business administration or a closely related field; and at least one year of professional experience performing administrative, operations, budgetary and similar analyses; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a governmental agency is preferred.
Accreditation shall be by a national or regional accreditation body that is recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education.

Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

Candidates are required to attach a writing sample that would demonstrate their analytical writing skills. It should be no longer than 1-5 pages and have been researched and written by the candidate.
