The San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer will plan, organize, manage, and provide administrative direction and oversight for all functions and activities of the department. The position will work closely with other County departments, officials, outside agencies, regulatory agencies, and the public and will be responsible for fostering cooperative working relationships. This position carries out State programs under the administration of the California Secretary of Food and Agriculture. This position is exempt from the San Joaquin County Civil Service System.
The department’s budget for the 2022‐2023 fiscal year is $8.5 million. There are 43 full‐time employees and a number of seasonal employees throughout the year. Desirable Qualifications - all interested candidates are encouraged to apply.
Education: Graduation from an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a related biological science.
Experience: Seven years of senior‐level management experience involving certificated agricultural inspection, weights and measures, or related public sector enforcement work.
Required Qualifications
License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Special Requirement: Possession of valid licenses as both a County Agricultural Commissioner and a County Sealer of Weights and Measures, issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
