About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo Administrative Office is looking to fill two newly approved senior level management positions. As Division Managers, often referred to as Deputy County Administrative Officers in other counties, the individuals selected for these roles will be members of the department's senior leadership team and will play an instrumental part in the County's overall strategic direction and provide operational direction on County budget and policy issues. Incumbents will be required to use considerable independent judgment and discretion.

Additionally, the incumbents may be assigned to assist in the temporary management of County departments and may act in the absence of the Assistant County Administrative Officer.

While the positions are expected to rotate over time, one of the newly created positions will direct the County's annual budget process and provide direct supervision to other department staff members, while the other position will have primary day-to-day responsibility for the supervision and coordination of the County's Administrative Analysts. Both positions will be heavily involved in analyzing, understanding, and setting policy direction for the County.

The Ideal Candidate

For both positions successful candidates will have:

•Exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing with the ability to build consensus among County leaders.

•Experience in local government budgeting and policy analysis

•Excellent problem solving skills geared toward the overall goals and objectives of the organization

•Proven ability to develop and lead other staff members

•Demonstrated record of successful experience working with a large public budget

All candidates must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or a related field. In addition, six years of increasingly responsible experience performing professional level administrative analysis duties, including at least two years of supervisory experience or management of a significant program. A master's degree in public policy, public administration, business administration or a related field that includes a curriculum of economics, statistics, public finance, and policy analysis may be substituted for up to two years of the required non-supervisory or management experience.
