The City of Encinitas has a unique opportunity in the City Manager’s Department for an experienced and professional to support the Mayor and City Council. The City Council Executive Assistant performs a range of confidential and complex administrative duties, such as; managing multiple calendars for five (5) busy elected officials and tracking constituent inquires from first contact though resolution. The City Council Executive Assistant also prepares variety of correspondence, on behalf of the Mayor and Council, to government officials, community leaders, residents and the business community. This position also plays an integral role in the planning and organizing special events, such as the annual Mayor’s prayer breakfast and State of the City.
The ideal candidate will have at least four (4) years of experience providing complex administrative support to high level officials. The ability to calmly and accurately handle multiple projects and tasks in a high paced environment is a must. This position requires a skilled writer as well as someone who is detailed and highly organized. The City Council Executive Assistant is confidential and a non-political professional who understands the City Manager – City Council form of government. To be successful requires a person that embodies the principles of teamwork and the desire exceed Customer Service expectations.
An Associate Arts degree in Business, Public Administration, or a closely related field, plus 4 years of recent responsible administrative experience involving assisting high level officials/executives, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Preference will be given to candidates that have work experience supporting a City Council or City Manager. Public Sector experience is highly desirable.
