Your Role
As a Legislative Management Analyst, you will be a vital resource for city leadership, continuously monitoring and analyzing legislative activities and proposed policies. Reporting directly to the City Clerk / Legislative Affairs Director, your insights will help guide decision-making and strategic planning, ensuring that the City of San Marcos is prepared for any changes in the legislative landscape. You will play a key role in evaluating the practical implications of bills and laws, keeping stakeholders informed and engaged.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Monitor Legislative Developments: Keep a close watch on local, state, and federal legislation, identifying bills and policies that may affect the City of San Marcos.
- Analyze Policy Impacts: Conduct thorough analyses of proposed laws, assessing their potential impacts on city operations, resources, and community well-being.
- Provide Strategic Updates: Regularly brief city leadership on relevant legislative changes, offering recommendations for action and response.
- Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with various city departments to gather insights and foster a comprehensive understanding of how legislative changes may influence city initiatives.
- Facilitate Communication: Act as a liaison between city officials and external stakeholders, including legislators and advocacy groups, to promote the city's interests and priorities.
- Research and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and presentations that distill complex legislative information into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.

The City of San Marcos will consider filling this vacancy at either the Management Analyst or Senior Management Analyst level. The annual salary range for each classification is listed below and the level of work between the journey and advanced level are listed below.
Management Analyst: $76,161.84 - $99,373.89
Senior Management Analyst: $87,197.66 - $113,773.17 Annually

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education/Training
Management Analyst & Senior Management Analyst: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, economics, or a related field, is preferred. A master's degree is highly desirable. However, equivalent experience, certification, licensure and/or education will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience
Management Analyst: Two - three years of increasingly responsible professional-level administrative, analytical, and/or budgetary experience related to assigned area. Experience in administering programs in a governmental jurisdiction is highly desirable.
Senior Management Analyst: Five years of increasingly responsible professional-level administrative, analytical, and/or budgetary experience related to assigned area. Experience in administering programs in a governmental jurisdiction is highly desirable.
