The District employs approximately 216 full-time employees and has an annual operating budget of $124 million. The District’s capital improvement program budget is over $250 million as of FY 2025 and anticipated to increase based on District initiatives.

Following a 2023 organizational study, the city is establishing a new Community Development Department through a merger of Planning and Environmental Services. The new Director will shape the department’s structure, strategy, and operations while leading Malibu’s recovery and rebuilding efforts after the Palisades Fire.
