Six California cities can begin installing speed cameras under a five-year pilot program authorized by the governor last week.
The first incident occurred Thursday just after 10 p.m. when a robo taxi collided with a fire truck that was responding to an emergency.
The California Public Utilities Commission will vote on an expansion of driverless taxis this week. Local leaders are begging the Commission to slow down.
Pedestrian deaths are on the rise nationally and statewide, with California and four other states accounting for half of the 6,227 pedestrian fatalities that occurred last year.
