California’s unemployment rate rose to 5.4% in October, according to figures released Friday from the Employment Development Department. The increase from September was a slight +0.1%.

The national unemployment rate is at its lowest level in decades. In March, the country added 315,000 jobs. In April, that number was a smaller yet robust 175,000.
