The Victorville City Council is at odds over how to fill a vacancy left by the abrupt removal of former city councilwoman Rita Ramirez earlier this month.

The Sonoma City Council welcomed a new member last week. Kelso Barnett, who serves on the Planning Commission, was appointed March 1 in a 4-0 vote.

Tom LaBonge, who represented L.A.’s 4th District from 2001 to 2015, died on Thursday, Jan. 7 at his Silverlake home. He was 67.
