Planning/Engineer

The ideal candidate for this position has been described as a collaborative planner, who recommends solutions for orderly, sustainable growth and development. Politically astute, though apolitical, the City Planner will be responsible for helping to execute the vision, look, and feel of our community. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for making recommendations about the aesthetic design, cohesiveness, and long term sustainability of planning projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in building inspection, building technology, architecture, engineering, or a related field.
 
Experience-Five years of experience in a building trade and four year of experience as a Building Inspector.
 

Plans, directs, coordinates, inspects and supervises the work of professional and sub-professional engineering staff engaged in field and office civil engineering work involving material testing, construction inspection of roads, bridges, buildings and related structures for conformance to design specifications; directs and supervises a variety of survey projects and traffic engineering studies; acts as agent for the County in negotiations with contractors, consultants, other agencies and the public; supervises and performs technical and professional work including preparation of plans, specif

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the programs and activities of the City’s Planning Department; provides expert professional assistance to management staff on planning matters in accordance with all applicable laws. Perform related work as assigned.
 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Civil Engineer is an advanced journey level registered civil engineering classification in the professional civil engineering class series. Assignments are given in general terms with incumbents exercising considerable independent judgment and discretion in the application of the principles and practices of planning, design, construction and the ad-ministration of a variety of projects to include but not limited to public works including streets, water, sewer and storm drain systems; City parks; building projects and airport projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Planner leads, oversees, reviews and performs complex professional land use and urban planning work including current and long range planning, implementation of the City’s General Plan, and coordination of special projects; drafts ordinances and resolutions; makes presentations to various groups; trains and supervises assigned staff; performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Position Description:  Under general direction, plans, supervises and coordinates traffic engineering, transportation planning and maintenance of traffic control devices and equipment; monitors, modifies and develops traffic safety operational programs; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and performs related work as required.
